Site Description: Xi'an Jiaotong University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. Its predecessor was Nanyang Public School founded in Shanghai in 1896, renamed as Jiaotong University in 1921. In 1956, the State Council decided to relocate Jiaotong University to Xi'an, and in 1959, it was named Xi'an Jiaotong University and listed as a national key university. Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of the first seven universities to enter the national "211 Project" construction. In 1999, it was designated by the state as a school with the goal of building a world-renowned high-level university. In April 2000, the State Council decided to merge Xi'an Medical University, which had a history of over 60 years under the Ministry of Health, and Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics, which had a history of over 40 years under the People's Bank of China, into Xi'an Jiaotong University.
